Cultivation of Microalgae in Unsterile Malting Effluent for Biomass Production and Lipid Productivity Improvement

Microalgae have the potential to grow in nutrient-rich environments and ability accumulate nutrients from wastewater. The malting wastewater are ideal for microalgae cultivation. However, there is limited published work on growth characteristics of freshwater grown effluent. This study examined diluted effluent green algae Chlorella sp. Chlamydomonas isolated northern Ontario subsequent biomass lipid production. Under 18:6 h light/dark cultivation cycle, highest cell number counted (540 × 104 cell·mL−1 day 20) total chlorophyll content were found 50% effluents sp., whereas 70% dilution concentration was most productive (386 16). higher both (maximum 20.5%–minimum 11.5% dry weight) (max 39.3%–min 25.9% weight).
